There are  fourteen prime ministers in INDIA. The first one was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1947 and the whole period was from 1947 to 1964. Then after the death of Nehru in 1964 may 27th , then came the acting prime minister Gulzarilal Nanda and he was (A)PM for that time till the next prime minister was elected by the people. And the period of his rule was from 1964 may 27th to 9th of june. Then the third prime minister was Lal Bahadur Shastri and his period of rule was from 1964 June 11th to 1966 January 11th. On January 11th he died  supposedly of an heart attack  & he is the only Indian Prime Minister to have died in office overseas i.e Pakistan. Then again  Gulzarilal Nanda  became the acting prime minister and in the same month the new prime minister has been elected, i.e, Indira Gandhi. Her period in office was from 1966 to 1977 march 24th. Till 1977 the Indian national congress party was ruling and then in the elections  1977 the Indian national congress party has lost their majority and then the new party came into the Indian politics that was Janata Party lead by Morarji Desai. And he became the prime minister  with new polices to change the country. He was there in office for two years i.e from 1977 to  1979. After that the Janata party(secular) with Indian National Congress alliance they formed government in  that period the prime minister was Charan Singh. And he was in office for one year and then Indira Gandhi back into the office from 1980 January 14th to 1984 October 31th. Then after the Indira Gandhi's murder by terrorists. Rajiv Gandhi became the 6th prime minister  of INDIA and his period in office was from 1984 to 1989. After him Vishwanath Pratap Singh was the PM for one year i.e., 1989 to 1990, after that from 1990 to 1991 Chandra Shekhar was prime minister from Samajwadi Janata Party with alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).Then again Indian National congress has got their power back leading them by Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao as  prime minister from 1991 to 1996. After that Bharatiya Janata Party has came up to serve India making Atal Bihari Vajpayee as prime minister for one year, after that the janata dal party has made revolution to down the government for two year and in that period the PM's w  H. D. Deve Gowda & Inder Kumar Gujral. They were in office from 1996 to 1998.Then BJP came out with very strong motive to serve India leading in front by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was there in office for 6years i.e., 1998 to 2004 with the National Democratic Alliance and made India look strong in the world. Then in 2004 the Indian National congress with United Progressive Alliance came up leading by Sonia Gandhi and the prime minister as Dr. Manmohan Singh. And he is also the present prime minister of INDIA.
